What is Digital mammography?
Digital Mammography uses low dose X-rays to detect early-stage cancer or any abnormal growth within the structure of the breast. It is different from a chest x-ray and is done in a specially designed machine for this purpose.
What is a screening mammogram?
An annual screening mammogram is done in seemingly normal women over the age of 40 years to detect any breast cancer in early stage, that is not yet palpable as a lump.
What preparation is required before the procedure?
Please be careful not to wear anything under your arms like perfumes, deodorants or talcum powder it may interfere with the diagnosis.
What is the time taken for the procedure
Approximately, the time taken for the procedure is 15-20 mins.
Is it painful?
No, although you may feel some discomfort as the breast is compressed between two paddles for better image quality.
Is an appointment required for the procedure?
Yes.
When is the report expected?
Within 2 hours of the scan. You will be informed in case of any unexpected delays.
